I went to the writing center on Thursday. To be honest, I did not want to go there. I thought it would be awkward to talk to an older student that i did not know. Surprisingly, it was actually very comfortable and helpful. I completed things that i needed help in and wouldn't have been able to do without outside help.
We worked on my introduction and conclusion. My partner helped me extend my introduction to a larger paragraph. He improved my work choice and made it flow more smoothly. We only had twenty five minutes, so I had to use what he taught me about the introduction on the conclusion. I am more confident with my essay after going to the writing center.

Why we shouldn't have homework right before exams
I am glad that there is a free post this week because I would like to state my beliefs about teachers assigning huge projects the week before final exams. This hasn't happened in this English class, but two of my teachers have assigned projects the week before finals. I do not believe that this is fair. We should have one or two weeks without homework so we can prepare for exams.
Instead of letting us prepare for our first high school exams, some teachers assign extra homework. They have decided to cram all the work in that is possible. Assigning extra homework and projects not only indirectly drops some of our exam grades in that class, but also poorly affects our ability to study for other classes. It should not be allowed to give any work outside of school until the third quarter. I am not meaning to complain, but teachers assigning more work right before exams will hurt my education and my future.

Literary Analysis Progress
The hardest part of the literary analysis process was coming up with something to argue about. It's very hard to just think of a topic to argue about and start stating your beliefs. Another hard part was making my argument into more than three pages. I couldn't think of much to say, so it was hard to keep on writing when I ran out of points to make. It was very easy to make my conclusion though because I had already stated everything I wanted to say and just had to close my argument.
I have only used my book as a recourse because I didn't think it was a good idea to risk not having the proper citations. I also didn't feel like there was a good source besides the book that I could find. If I could give advice to people still writing their paper it would be to make many points to prove your thesis. Then, you should be able to write three or more pages very easily. I would also recommend running your paper through grammarly. It helps edit your paper and prevents you from having to proofread it many times.

How To Guide of Waffles
When preparing a fresh batch of waffles you need to consider many things. First of all, you will need to acquire frozen waffles. A toaster is also necessary if you do not have any other ways to cook the waffles. After putting the waffles in the toaster, gather some toppings. You will need some chocolate syrup and nutella to enhance the waffle.
After gathering all the ingredients possible, take the waffles out of the toaster. Get a glass of milk and place it next to the waffles. Take the ingredients and sprinkle them onto the waffles however you would like to. Waffles have been a big part of my short life and I am happy I had the chance to write about them.

Christmas Symbolism
The Christmas tree represents the spirit of Christmas. It represents how Christmas brings joy and happiness to people's lives. It shows the festivity of the holiday. Presents and gifts are also big symbols for Christmas. Most families gather around a Christmas tree to unwrap presents on Christmas day.
Being with family is also a big part of Christmas. When I think of the holidays I think of sitting around the Christmas tree in our living room with my parents and grandmothers. Christmas brings families together. Each year I see some of my relatives that I haven't seen all year.

I agree that Jack uses fear to start his tribe. People think that he will kill the beast, so they do what he wants them to do.
That is true that they were shocked. I think that the boys realized they were about to kill a kid because they realized they were being rescued and won't live on the island anymore.

Quarantine
The concept of having children exiled from society due to a disease is very interesting to say the least. In many ways I could compare it to Lord of the Flies due to the representation of children gone savage. The author uses gruesome and horrifying language when describing one of the gangs in the book. He then uses peaceful language and describes the other gang as the good guys in the book. This can compare to the narrator in Lord of the Flies referring to Piggy as fat and describing Ralph's fair hair constantly. Whoever is narrating the book is biased, for some reason not provided in the book.
Will loses his brother in a high school that was quarantined due to the kids getting a deadly plague that only harms adults. It is very hard to imagine this happening in real life, but the writer just wants the reader to assume that it all did. The school is described as ginormous and never-ending. There are different gangs scattered across the halls, many of which are capable of murder. This shows how kids form groups and if nobody stops them, will fight another group. This book reminded me of Lord of the Flies as I read constantly, and was a very enjoyable read.

Important lotf section
Simon saying "what I mean is, maybe it's only us", sums up the reasoning behind the belief in a beast. It shows symbolism for the Lord of the Flies. Simon understands how the boy's brains work more than even Piggy. This represents Simon's insight and knowledge. He is meaning to say that what the boys think of the beast is really in their minds.
This passage foreshadows how the boys become savage and join Jack's tribe. This is also slightly misleading, because we think that Simon understands that there is no beast. Then, he hallucinates and thinks that a pig's head is talking to him. Simon does have great wisdom compared to the other boys, but in my opinion, that doesn't make up for his mental illness and hallucinations. Simon is very accurate in describing how the beast was imaginary. He is supposed to be younger than Ralph, Jack, and Piggy, but somehow knows more than they do.

exerpt response
The world, that understandable and lawful world, was slipping away. Once there was this and that; and now--and the ship had gone. [... Jack refusing to give Piggy the floor when he has the conch...]
"The rules!" shouted Ralph. "You're breaking the rules!"
"Who cares?"
Ralph summoned his wits.
"Because the rules are the only thing we've got!"
But Jack was shouting against him.
"Bollocks to the rules! We're strong--we hunt! If there's a beast, we'll hunt it down! We'll close in and beat and beat and beat--!" (91)
This short passage represents how Ralph is in support of a civilization and rules. It also shows how Jack wants to have chaos and no order or rules on the island. It briefly shows how Ralph wants to cling on to the rules because it reminds him of how his life used to be and he realizes the rules keep the boys from going crazy. Jack doesn't agree with Ralph on most topics, including the rule that whoever has the conch can talk. Using the conch as a talking stick not only helps the boys agree on decisions, but gives the children a general sense of order and security while on the island.
This passage briefly explains how Jack thinks that since he can hunt, he shouldn't have to abide by the rules on the island. In Jack's opinion, he should be the leader because he occasionally brings everybody meat. He intends to take power by force and intimidation. This is foreshadowing to how Jack will form a breakoff group in protest of Ralph's rules. Ralph would like to restore peace and order, but Jack wants to live by his own standards.

Lord of the Flies has certainly gained my reading attention lately. Even though it is a required read, it has me confused and excited about what is going on. The writer picks some interesting words to describe the setting. The most entertaining parts of the novel in my opinion are when each kid attends the meetings every day. The conversations had between them represent how incredibly hard it is to keep kids under control while in a survival situation. The common use of the phrase 'shut up,' shows how children are very rude and do not take kindly to people who disagree with them.
The way that Jack talks and acts while hunting is brought up [most of the time by Jack], he gets a crazed look in his eyes. Jack talks slightly frantically at some points and dismisses other parts of the conversation he is in. Ralph is a mediocre leader, mainly because of the way he bullies Piggy. The lack of work put forth by most of the kids is very pathetic. This makes me worry that the leadership will take a turn for the worst and the kids will be left with break off groups and fights for food and shelter.

After reading the beginning of Lord of the Flies and learning through years of personal experience, I have come to believe that the basic human nature is selfishness. The book represents my belief perfectly. While Ralph tries to get every kid on the island to work with him to help survive, other kids like Jack and Simon have their own personal desires and ignore the wishes of others. Just the other day, my friend had a bag of chips. This prompted me to ask him for a chip, but he chewed me out and told me to get my own chips. This clearly shows how most people will take things for themselves and not conceive the idea of giving to others.
I have come to a conclusion that most humans will drop the blame thrown their way on other people if they have the chance. A man at Starbucks knocked over a table and broke a glass while I went inside the store to purchase a cookie. When the manager asked who knocked it over, the man blamed a woman in the corner of the store typing on her computer. People will go around stealing from and blaming others without even batting an eye. Overall, while some people do have good intentions, most will put themselves before others no matter what the circumstance.

Fall break free post
My fall break was not very eventful or exciting. I met my cousin and his girlfriend while they were on vacation and sat at my table awkwardly as my dad embarrassed him throughout our dinner. We considered going on a trip for fall break, but decided to postpone our short adventure until Thanksgiving break. As my parents made plans with family, I struggled to complete my homework that I had forgotten to do. After I finished my homework, I was confused and bored and desperately tried to entertain myself. I tried flipping bottles in the kitchen, but my mom came into the room and saw water fly into the air and put an end to that.
I tried throwing a football with my neighbor, but it grew old quickly. The days were going by quickly, and I didn't feel like i was using my time wisely. I started taking frequent naps and completely threw off my sleeping schedule. Although it was a very long and relaxing break, I didn't feel like I enjoyed myself enough. When the time came to go back to school, I got sick and returned on Wednesday.

Quarantine
The book Quarantine is about two brothers that are starting high school. Due to the author's gloomy tone ,I could tell that something strange would happen in the first chapter. The boys catch diseases that harmfully effect only adults. They are quarantined in their school, which is why the author chose to name the book Quarantine. I would not agree with some of the words used by the author at some points. Children do not speak metaphorically or use as many 'big'words that are used in the dialogue.
Because of the lack of backstory, the book confuses me. There is not an explanation of the events leading up to the disease. There are no clues leading you to believe that the disease spread one way or another. The author just wants the reader to understand that there is a disease, and it harms adults instead of kids. I do like the concept of a story about high school kids left alone to fend for themselves, but I think the author could have picked a more creative environment instead of making it take place in an everyday school. Although the school is large, the setting in the novel is somewhat boring.

Should We Abandon Louisiana? In some ways, we already have. Source: Zack Kopplin
Should We Abandon Louisiana? In some ways, we already have, by Zack Kopplin included many great points and ideas, but I disagreed with one of the details mentioned. The author mentions that Louisiana loses a football field of land each hour. This was news to me, and it makes me worry about the future of Louisiana. Because of our location, there wasn't an appropriate amount of media coverage over the flooding in our state. I do not understand why our location impacts the news stories about our natural disasters, but it caused me to feel like the rest of the country doesn't care about my home state. Many critics want people to leave Louisiana and give up on trying to rebuild according to this article. I personally don't think that we should abandon our community in hope for a better life someplace else.
The author blames the flooding on climate change. That is the one statement in the article that I disagree with. There was another huge flood in Louisiana in the eighties that was topped by this one. It was viewed as a natural disaster, just like this flood should be depicted as. The temperature of the world does change; this happened when the ice age ended. Climate change isn't caused by the overuse of fossil fuels because it is a natural occurrence. I do agree that most of the people that moved out of Louisiana did because they couldn't afford to stay. The author makes a great point when he states that people didn't leave Louisiana by choice. Louisiana should be rebuilt instead of ignored and abandoned.

Fast Food
Over my short lifetime, I have consumed hundreds of pounds of fast-food. Chick-Fil-A and McDonalds have been my main destinations after school. I always order the six piece chicken nuggets with tangy, spicy, barbecue sauce do dip the fries in as I enjoy the five minutes of heaven that the meal I'm having is. A Chick-Fil-A, I order the eight piece chicken nugget meal with a slightly sweeter, more savory, barbecue sauce. I get the fries and a delicious Iced Lemonade to wash them down.
Many critics insult McDonalds and Chick-Fil-A, which offends me as a voracious fast-food consumer. They argue that people who eat there are slobs that have eating problems. I have read many articles putting down McDonalds because eating too many of their fries can cause your arteries to get clogged. To them I say, I would rather die young after a life of fun and fast-food, than live and suffer until I am ninety years old. What good is a long life if you can't enjoy it while you're here?

Reading Response Cherub Mission Six
Cherub mission six is a very emotional novel. The author describes the innermost thoughts and feelings of each character. Even some of the less important characters are complex, and I cant think of any characters in this book that would be classified as flat. There is no overall theme, but the book does teach about trust and loyalty to friends. It is very exciting as I am nearing the end of the book.
James is a teenage boy that is a member of CHERUB, a group of kids under the age of eighteen that help with the law enforcement and justice system. James and his sister, Lauren, are working together on a mission to take down the Animal Alliance that has been terrorizing England by attacking animal lab employees and facilities. They go undercover working for the Animal Alliance, and plant explosives around their buildings. Most of the plot is explained, but some is meant for the reader to interpret. Although the book is very enjoyable, some parts go too slowly and bore the reader a little bit. Overall, I would recommend this book because of the action and suspense the author puts forth.

Those were very good questions. The story was very vague in explaining the backstory. Your questions asked most of what wasn't answered in the story.

Harrison Bergeron
Harrison Bergeron was a very enjoyable short story to read, and brings about many open-ended questions. Will our society become similar to the society written about in Harrison Bergeron? This could be argued about in many different ways. If we keep giving out trophies to our children for participating in things then they might grow up thinking that competition is wrong. Some of these children will grow up to be government officials and leaders that will determine what new law will be, and they might outlaw competition. Others might argue that since we are writing about this faulty society today and see the wrong that it brings forth, then we will not follow down that path and become like them.
Other questions might arise, too. If Harrison was so intelligent and superior to the other citizens, then why did he not understand the risk of escaping jail and throwing off his shackles on live television showing the government where he was and how to kill him? His plan was very smart in the first place to try and get people to let him be the emperor, but this strategy could have used a lot more planning yo prevent himself from dying. And if hazel was mentally average, then how does she forget that her own son is shot and killed on live television within a minute of it happening. I have a bad short term memory, but if forgetting something that quick in their society is "average", then many of the people must have a mental disease. This means that the government has put some device inside of peoples brains so they can not see the flaws in their society.

Short story
The figure appears outside my window and disappears into the night. All time stood still, and there is a brief moment of complete silence. Then I see the face. Cold, emotionless. The face vanishes and all I hear are footsteps. Each step louder than the last. I lunge for my knife. I reach for the table in desperate hope for protection. The door caves in and the figure reappears.
It doesn't move. My hand is touching the knife handle. There is a brief standoff between me and this creature. The figure removes its jacket and reveals a middle aged man wearing a white tank top and blue jeans. He extends his hand and points at my television. As I realize I'm being robbed the man grabs a black duffel bag and wraps it around my head. All to be seen is black. I will never see another color again.

Cherub Mission SIx
After reading more of Cherub Mission Six by Robert Muchamore, I have learned more about the author's word choice and writing techniques. He has frequently used vivid detail to describe events and places in each chapter. He uses the description of scents especially well, which makes this novel more enjoyable to read. His emotional connection to the story adds to the reader's feelings towards the characters. As the story goes on, the pace of the book speeds up.
The main characters, James and Lauren, are sent on a mission by their organization, Cherub, to prevent animal rights activists from staging attacks on employees working at a local animal testing lab. As they plan to take down the activists, James and Lauren ironically find a puppy and debate whether them would be the right thing to do. The author kept leaving something out of a chapter to add to the overall suspense of the book. This made the reader want to continue reading the book. Overall, Cherub Mission Six is a very well written and developed novel. I would strongly recommend this book to anybody who is a fan of the mystery and spy genres.

Dear 5 year old
Learn how to keep your balance. Make sure you don't knock other kids down or push them out the way, because your parents will yell at you. Do not climb too high up on the playground monkey bars, because you will fall off and hurt your head. Don't touch your mom's iron right after she tells you to keep away from it and leaves the room. Keep away from all animals that aren't leashed. Even the smallest dog can bite, and if there are no adults around, it wont let go.
Stay away from sharp objects and never grab one. Don't argue with your parents, or they will take your Nintendo DS away. Refrain from taking your DS back before your parents give it to you, even if you know where they put it. Enjoy being able to come home from school and not have five hours of homework to do before bedtime. Make the most of being small and young while you can, and enjoy your days of fun and adventure before you grow up and have work to do.

102 minutes that changed America
The documentary 102 minutes that changed America described how the September eleventh attack on the World Trade center and The Pentagon shaped America and its future. First, it describes how the first tower was hit and the world was in shock. The fire department showed up and heroic firemen went up the tower while everybody else ran down. This makes me proud of the country and how some tragic events bring out the best in people. As they went up, the people in the second tower evacuate, but are told that it is safe to go back up. The fact that the announcement that it was safe caused hundreds of more deaths makes me wish that they heard about the hijacked plane that was aiming at the north tower just a few minutes earlier.
The documentary then describes how the second tower is hit, causing most of the American population to understand that this is a terrorist attack. The news spreads from England all the way to China as the world starts to pray for the people in the towers. They then go on to describe how two office workers, Frank and Pablo, start to make their way up the tower and rescue over a hundred people on the way up the tower. Frank and Pablo proceed to the 80th floor to the 90th floor and help a man out of an elevator he was trapped in. When the south tower falls, a huge dust cloud forms and Frank and Pablo decide to keep going up despite the danger of their tower collapsing on them. Unfortunately, they do not survive, and I cried while watching a film for the first time in years. The North Tower then collapses and bystanders are covered in dust and debris from the two fallen towers. It then proceeds to announce how many lives Frank and Pablo's brave sacrifice saved on their tragic journey to the top of the tower. Frank and Pablo's saved groups of people are inspired by them and go on to save others, causing a chain reaction that greatly reduced the numbers of deaths on this terrible day.

Cherub Mission Six
Cherub mission six by Robert Muchamore is an intriguing novel about a young boy named James who lives with his sister Lauren. James is blackmailed by Lauren into raiding their school, and is called in by the principal. The author writes in third person point of view, and uses suspense to entertain the reader. He draws you in to the book by being very vague in describing what characters are up to, which makes the reader curious. This book is intended to be an action or thriller novel, but it can be classified as a survival story.
The novel is very inappropriate at times, and the author often uses heavy 'swear words.' In my personal opinion, this only adds on to the tension and drama that this author effectively uses. The author is talented in using descriptive vivid details, and makes me feel like I am there where the story takes place. Characters in the novel are put through a series of mental tests and adventures that entertain the reader, and make the reader feel strongly for the characters. Each chapter ends with un-answered questions and keeps you wanting to turn the page. This book was a must read for me because both Action and Survival genre books are my favorite genres to read.

Great word choice when describing this agonizing race. It made me feel like I was actually there.

That sounds very fun, I've been to a canyon like the one you described. I'm not sure why there would be fake arrowheads on the ground.

About three weeks ago, I went to see the impact of the flooding in Denham Springs. The homes were either untouched or completely gutted. Most of the people living in the neighborhood were outside working on their homes or helping their neighbors. All of the children had stunned looks on their faces as they stared at their destroyed homes.
Streets were lined with food stands that gave out free hot dogs or hamburgers to flood victims. The whole situation didn't seem like it was real. Piles of destroyed furniture and belongings lined the streets. There were even signs written on rubble warning looters to keep off their property. This tragedy ruined the lives of many Louisianians, and makes me thankful my house wasn't flooded.

Summer reading book
I enjoyed reading " Pet Friendly" as one of my summer choice reading books. The story was about a man named Todd, who was engaged to a woman named Qwen. When his uncle passes away, he volunteers to keep his dog, Archie for a short time to find him a home. Todd finds out that the dog can escape from almost any cage or locked room with ease when he loses him in the countryside and finds his high school girlfriend, Emma, at a hotel.
When they find Archie, Todd stays at the hotel for another day. This makes Qwen jealous after he told her who he met. Todd learns about how there were reports of the hotel being haunted, which turns out to be Archie in the vent system. Overall this book was very interesting and was hard to put down.

Over the past two weeks, many people in Louisiana have lost their homes and belongings from the flooding. Although I was not directly affected, many people that I know were. My mother's company went around giving supplies to flood victims in Denham Springs and Gonzales. I chose to go help out with carrying supplies to the flooded houses.
The neighborhoods around Denham Springs were covered with debris, broken cars, and furniture that had floated out of homes. Hundreds of people had made food stands where flood victims could get free food. Church groups and volunteers from around the country were helping people clean up. Most houses in the area were flooded, and some almost went underwater. It was a horrible event but it showed how helpful people are when natural disasters hit.

This summer I read The End by Charlie Higson as one of my choice summer reading books. It was by far the best book I read all summer. The story is set in modern day London, England, where all adults have turned into flesh-eating zombies. As I was reading, I noticed that the points of view during the book switched from first person to third person in different chapters. This added more suspense and overall made the book more enjoyable. The characters were well-described and none of them were dull or one-dimensional. This was the last book of a great series, and I would recommend reading the series.
